COMMUNITY/ PRODUCT /UX/UI
Member Portal
SMS is powerful for direct communication, but the experience can become one-directional. I designed the Community Member Portal to expand that relationship beyond the message, giving members a more interactive way to discover, organize, and engage with the people and brands they followed.
The experience brought discovery, profiles, subscription management, and content into a centralized destination, giving members more control while creating new opportunities for engagement within the Community ecosystem.

User Flow
Community Members subscribe to brands and creators through Community Numbers. The Member Portal gave those members a central place to discover new Leaders, search and browse profiles, follow or unfollow Communities, and organize the people and brands they wanted to hear from.
The goal was to create a more personal experience while giving members greater control over discovery and subscription management.
Designing for function & personality
I explored multiple approaches to common product interactions, looking for opportunities to make functional moments feel distinctly Community.
For the profile photo flow, an early direction used a familiar utility-driven interface. While clear and functional, it felt disconnected from the personality of the broader experience. The selected direction introduced illustration, motion, and a more expressive visual treatment communicating the same functionality while feeling more aligned with the Community brand.
The goal wasn’t to make the interaction more complex, but to bring character into the experience without overpowering the task.

Selected Direction
Color as a navigation cue
Early in the design process, I explored using color as a visual cue to categorize Leaders by interest. The idea was to create an instantly recognizable system that could help members understand the type of Leader they were viewing before reading the content.
As the experience evolved, the additional color coding began to feel more complex than useful. I moved away from the system in favor of a cleaner approach that allowed the interface to remain simple and intuitive while still retaining Community’s energy and personality.

The design process became an exercise in finding the right balance between expression and restraint—identifying moments where Community's personality could make an interaction more engaging, while simplifying others where additional visual treatment didn't improve the experience.
Expanding the ecosystem
The portal also created opportunities to extend Community beyond SMS. Concepts included bringing live experiences directly into the platform through Zoom integration, reducing the need to move members into outside applications, as well as discovery and sharing tools designed to encourage organic growth.
Together, these ideas explored how Community could evolve from a messaging platform into a broader destination built around the people, brands, and interests members already cared about.

Keep it all in Community
The proposed idea was to partner with Zoom to bring live calls directly into the member portal, creating a more seamless experience from start to finish. Instead of sending members to an outside app and risking losing their attention along the way, the goal was to keep them engaged within the Community ecosystem, making it easier to join, participate, and stay connected.
Organic growth
Create more opportunities for organic growth by making it easy for members to discover and share the Leaders they love. Simple sharing tools could help introduce new people to the Community, turning every member into an opportunity to grow the network naturally.

Personalization
Members could manage who they followed and curate their own list of Leaders, creating a more relevant experience each time they returned.
This is a glimpse into a much larger project and some of the key ideas, experiences, and design explorations that shaped it. For a deeper look at the thinking, process, and the project in its current state, I’d be happy to schedule time to walk through the full experience.
